The Skylon Tower was opened in 1965 and is located in Niagara Falls, Canada. After seeing the falls from ground level, consider seeing them from above on the Skylon observation deck which provides spectacular views of both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the falls.

The Skylon Tower reaches a height of 775 feet and is supported by three legs which reminds me of the base of a Kapok Tree. The base diameter of column is 72.6 feet and the top of the column is 33.6 ft. in diameter.

To reach the top the tower there are three high speed elevators which ride on the outside of the tower on rails mounted between the three legs. Each elevator has glass windows to allow the riders to enjoy the view on the way up or down but the ride is quick as it takes only 52 seconds for the trip.

The top of the tower there is a three story globe that contains an indoor/outdoor observation deck, a 300 person revolving restaurant which take one hour to complete the 360 cycle and a stationary buffet restaurant.

One of the best feature of any tower is the view from the lookout level. The view from the Skylon Tower has one of the best views of any tower that I have seen. The view of Niagara Fall from the observation deck is amazing!

Of course, the observation deck provides 360 degree view so there is more to see than Niagara Falls. One of the interesting sites for me was to see both sides of the border between the United States and Canada. There are nice views of the towns of Niagara Falls, New York, U.S.A and Niagara Fall, Ontario, Canada along with the Niagara River that separates them and the Rainbow Bridge that connects them.

Other points of interest that can be easily seen are the Niagara Observation Tower on the United States side and entertainment center on the Canadian side that is highlighted by the Niagara Skywheel.

The Dust on My Shoes

Seeing Niagara Falls on the ground level is incredible! Every time I think about my experience I remember actually feeling the pounding of the water when I got close to the falls but seeing the falls from above on the observation deck of Skylon Tower gave me a completely different perspective.

Being able to see the falls from above let me see the total picture. Being on the ground level near the falls is an unforgettable experience because it is an unimaginable force of nature but being able to see the feed waters of the Niagara River and how the two side of the falls are created with Goat Island separating the two shows the total picture.

When we visit places for a short period of time we normally just have time to see the most impressive parts of the attraction, city or country. When I travel, I try to stay longer at each place so that I can see more than just the most famous attractions which allows me to get a better understanding of the places that I visit.
