Nature and Wildlife reserves are areas of land and water which are managed for the conservation and restoration of fish, wildlife and plant resources. These reserves protect natural habitats to ensure that wildlife have healthy environment now and for future generations. Many wildlife reserves are found along rivers, coasts marshes and wetlands but they also extend into deserts, plains, forests, mountains, oceans and the Arctic.

Nature and wildlife reserves are areas that are kept as close as possible to the natural state of the land. This enable native wildlife to live on the land as it did before people arrived. These reserves have minimally invasive areas that allow people the chance to see wildlife in its natural environment.

President Theodore Roosevelt established the Refuge System in 1903 at what is now Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida. There are 568 national wildlife refuges in the United States that are managed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. These refuges span from the Caribbean to the Pacific and from Main to Alaska.

I have been to many wildlife reserves within the United States and in other countries during my travels.  All of the nature and wildlife reserves that I have visited have been wonderful experiences.
