Tachileik is a city in the north east corner of Myanmar. The Tachileik Shwedagon Pagoda is a smaller version of the famous Shwedagon Pagoda that is located in Yangon, Myanmar. The pagoda in Tachileik is located on the top of a high hill which provides a great view of the city below and across the border into Thailand.
The main feature of the pagoda is a large golden stupa that shines bright in the sunlight. Around the center tower are many small golden stupas.
Next to the main Stupa is a small building housing several Buddha with the 3 main Buddha in the center. The photo below shows these 3 Buddha clothed in a golden fabric.
At the edge of the property near the entrance is a smaller structure with a row of monk statues waiting in line to receive a blessing from a Buddha. I found this display of statues to be interesting because I have never seen anything like this in any of my travels in Asia.
Overall, the Shwedagon Pagoda in Tachileik was a small site but being located on top of a hill with a great view was nice and the main stupa was impressive. Additionally, the monk statues at the entrance was something new to me. Tachileik Myanmar is a small border town with several interesting things to see but for me the Shwedagon Pagoda was the most impressive.
