Phuket

Phuket Island is located in the Andaman Sea in southern Thailand and it is Thailand’s largest island. Phuket is best known for amazing beaches and the town of Patong that has a reputation for being a party town with notorious nightlife but there is more to do in Phuket than sit on the beach during the day and party at night.

Phuket’s most famous beach is Patong Beach but there are many nice beaches in Phuket. In addition to Patong Beach other major beaches are Kata Beach, Nai Han Beach, Mai Khao Beach and Nai Yang Beach. Smaller beaches are less crowded and offer a more tranquil experience. Some of the smaller beaches are Paradise Beach, Freedom Beach and Merlin Beach which is nice for snorkeling directly from the beach.

In addition to the beach and nightlife there are lots of things to do in Phuket. Some of the activities include shopping, night markets, watching Thai Boxing (Muay Thai Fights), jungle canopy walkway and ziplines or scuba diving and snorkeling.

I had been to Thailand on seven separate trips without setting aside a meaningful amount time to see the beautiful fish and carol that live just off the Thailand coast. After spending a week snorkeling in Phuket, I feel that I had not seen all of Thailand until I had seen the underwater life of Thailand.

There is plenty to do without leaving Phuket Island but there are several daytrips from the island that will make a visit to Phuket even more meaningful. Daytrips that I recommend taking are seeing Phang Nga Bay National Park, visiting the Muslum Floating Village of Koh Panyi, James Bond Island and Phi Phi Island.
