Metropol Parasol is a contemporary landmark located in Seville, Spain. This extraordinary flowing structure consists of six huge linked parasols made of waffle type crisscrossing wooden beams. The structure’s size measures 492 feet long, 246 feet wide, 92 feet high and is coated with a clear polyurethane that makes it weatherproof but is elastic and allow the wood to breath.

The irregular shaped upper portions makes the structure feel like it changes shape when it is looked at from different vantage points. This is illustrated in the next few photos.

Each of the six support columns are just as unique as the upper portion of the structure and it seems that there are no two pieces that are alike in the entire structure.

The Metropol Parasol is locally known as “The Mushrooms” which is easily understandable as the support columns resemble the base of a mushroom.

The top of the structure can be accessed from an elevator in the basement and there is a winding walkway providing a nice view of the surrounding area. It is commonly used as a meeting spot for locals and as a shaded place to hang out in the hot summer months.

One of my desires of this blog is to inform my readers about places that they might not ever knew existed. The Metropol Parasol is one of those places that is normally not included in top sight to see in Seville and I am sure that the average person doesn’t know there is anything like it.

I enjoyed seeing the Metropol Parasol because it is a one of a kind place. It is rare that I see something that is completely unique from any other place.

I felt like the Metropol Parasol was a hypnotic sight because its rolling honeycombed canopy made the structure look different from every perspective, almost like it was flowing with my movement.
