Most people go to Jamaica for parting or to hang out on the beautiful beaches but taking a river raft down the Martha Brea River is a relaxing trip down a lazy river through the tropical bamboo forests.
The Martha Brea River is a pretty river. The water is an unusual green color and it flows through lush tropical forest. There is a diversity of plant life that you will see along the 3 mile journey and you will probably encounter a few of the local birds along the way. This is something that I would recommend for nature lovers because you really feel like you are alone with nature.
The rafts are made of 30 foot bamboo poles that are tied together to create a stable floating raft. For the comfort of the passengers, the raft has a seat with a cushion. There is no fear of getting wet other than maybe your feet. I would suggest wearing sandals and taking them off for the ride.
The ride takes about an hour. The river flows slowly and helps the raft to move but the raft captain is the real force that drives the raft as he moves the raft with a bamboo pole which he also uses to control the raft through the river.
As you go along the river you will encounter a couple of places where the locals are selling souvenirs. You can ask the raft captain to stop at one of these shops if you see something that looks good.
Taking a raft trip down the Martha Brea River is relaxing and tranquil. About 5 minutes into the trip you will feel your mind beginning to clear and all you are thinking about is all of the nature that surrounds you. Really all that you need to do is to sit back and enjoy the ride.
Very beautiful forest! I will probably afraid to sit on the raft …hahaha
It is a slow moving river. I think that you would love it.
