Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest amusement park in the world that is set inside a pleasure gardens which with featured events and performances.

Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843 and is one of the top attractions in Copenhagen, Denmark. The park contains 30 thrilling rides that are designed to entertain children and adults, a broad range of concerts, ballet and theater performances and over 30 restaurants

Many visitors come to the park just to see the gardens and enjoy the entertainment without going on the rides. Many of the restaurants can be entered from outside the park so people come eat at the same restaurants without entering the park.

Amusement Park

The amusement park rides are designed for all ages. The rides range from thrilling to a gentler family friendly experience. Family friendly rides include the Classic Carousel with colorful circus horsed and other animals, a small Ferris wheel that gently rises above the treetops that allows riders to see the park from a bird’s eye view and dragon boats that smoothly glides through the water past the beautiful gardens and the Japanese Pagoda.

More adventurous rides include the Fatamorgana where riders can choose between a shared gondola that smoothly rotates around and a single chair that also rotates but the wheel tilts as it climbs up to 43 meters above the ground. The Swing Carousel where riders spin through the air on a swing seat while suspended from a long chain. The swings gain momentum and then tilt making the ride more exhilarating.

Two of the most thrilling rides are the Star Flyer carousel that spins riders around at a height of 80 meters and the Demon rollercoaster that makes sharp turns, steep drops and has three loops. The ride lasts about two minutes but seems much longer as reaches speeds of up to 77 km/hr. (48 miles/hr.).

Flower Gardens

The park doesn’t have a formal designated garden area but the flowers are scattered throughout the park. Essentially, making the entire park part of the flower gardens. It is not possible to show all of the flowers in the park so I have included a few of my favorites.

Events and Performances

Tivoli Gardens is open 257 days per year and there are events and performances scheduled every day with many events included in the entrance fee. The entertainment at Tivoli Gardens includes plays, dance routines, and concerts that includes jazz, rock and classical music.

Food

Naturally, there are many places to eat within the park. Some restaurants serve fast food that is similar to most parks but there are also places to have three-course meals that can be slowly enjoyed with selected wines.

The Dust on My Shoes

Tivoli Gardens is one of Copenhagen’s top tourist attractions. However, it was not crowded when I visited. I am sure that it is more crowded on the weekends and during summer. We visited during the spring time and the flowers were really nice, including the tulips. There seemed to be more people enjoying the atmosphere of the park than going on the amusement park rides.

The park has maintained the ambiance of being a nostalgic theme park while still having exciting rides for the thrill seekers. Many of the rides and buildings give the park an atmosphere of being in a past era that has a romantic attraction to it. Tivoli Gardens is an enjoyable and relaxing place to visit even if you don’t intend to go on the amusement park rides.

Going to amusement parks are not places that I normally go to during my travels but I wanted to see Tivoli Gardens because of its nostalgic style that represents the amusement parks historic past.
