The To-Sua Ocean Trench is located on the southeast coast of the island of Upolu in Samoa. At first sight of this natural occurrence my thought was that it is the perfect swimming hole and it absolutely was! There is no better setting than a nature made saltwater aquarium in the warm tropical climate of the Southern Pacific Ocean surrounded by lush tropical plants. The name “To-Sua” translates to “Giant Swimming Hole”.

This idealist swimming hole was formed by a collapsed lava field and a lava trench that connects to the Pacific Ocean. The sheer rock walls that are draped with lush green tropical foliage plunge about 20 meters to the clear aqua blue waters. The only access to the swimming hole is to climb down the wooden ladder but it is worth it once you get to the water. The water is up to 90 feet deep and offers a place for swimming in calm crystal clear water that is populated with tropical fish.

Without a doubt the To-Sua Ocean Trench is the perfect swimming hole but I would feel like I cheated everyone if I didn’t include some pictures of the view of the Pacific Ocean that is only a few feet away.

Of course it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t include some palm trees and a beach is just down the road.

The To-Sua Ocean Trench and its surroundings offers everything that you could want from a South Pacific Island experience. You can take a swim in the perfect swimming hole, walk on the white sand beach or just relax and check out the spectacular ocean view. It’s a pretty nice way to spend a day!
