Ta Prohm is part of the Angkor complex that most people know as Angkor Wat. Ta Prohm is such a small portion of the Angkor complex that it normally would not get much attention but there are two things that made it one of the top points of interest to visitors coming to see the Angkor complex.

1. When Ta Prohn was rediscovered large tree roots had invaded the structures of many of the buildings causing the trees and the structure to become one object. Removing the tree would destroy the building.

2. Ta Prohm gained a lot of exposure because of its appearance in the movie “Laura Croft: Tomb Raider”.
Some of the buildings are still in good condition considering they were lost in the jungle and completely neglected for hundreds of years. The lead photo above and the photo below are of the entrance to Ta Prohm.

One of the things that I like the most about this site is that there has not been much reconstruction done. When I walked through the site it felt like I was seeing it the way it looked when it was discovered. Many areas had moss growing on the building and the stones that were laying around on the site. It really made me feel like I was walking in the steps of the explorers and not just seeing things in a museum.

Although some of the structures had fallen down and there are pieces of structures laying in ruins in the same place that they landed when they fell, there are many of structures that are still in good condition.

One thing that really impressed me was how many of the carvings that were still in excellent condition. Walking through Ta Prohn, there were many carvings that did not have any damage to them. After all of the time being exposed to the elements of the jungle there are so many carvings that looked really nice. The pictures below show just some of the many carvings that are still in excellent condition.

The main feature that most people come to see at Ta Prohn are the tree roots intertwined with the buildings. It really is amazing to see how the tree’s roots wind through the structures to create a merger between nature and architecture.

This post is the third in a series of three post on the Angkor complex. The Angkor complex is amazing with three very different attractions. I had dreamed about going to see the Angkor complex for many years and it did not disappoint me. Everything about this archaeological site was bigger and better than I had expected. It truly is one of the top world attractions.
